Kansas City, MO / Bergisch Gladbach, 25.04.2017 | In May 2017, CEO Sebastian Feik visited the U.S. in search of new business opportunities. Mr. Feik and David Coddon, legitimis’ local representative and operations manager, attended several meeting in Kansas City and Detroit. The goal of the meetings was to raise legitimis’ U.S. profile by:
1. Developing relationships with local businesses;
2. Identifying potential clients; and
3. Evaluating strategies for the efficient provision of services in the U.S.
It was immediately apparent that data privacy remains an area of great concern and interest in the U.S. In fact, conducting business at any level, whether international or local, increasingly involves questions related to data privacy and security. For instance, cloud services for an international market must be in compliance with local regulations such as ITAR and HIPAA, as well as international/regional regulations such as the GDPR. In order for systems, solutions and services to be successful, an international data compliance strategy must be implemented from scratch – this is one of the core insights from May’s meetings.
As the meetings also made clear, legitimis’ “one-stop” strategy is indispensable. One lesson from the meetings was that clients desire a global “one size fits all” approach with a common project manager.
legitimis’ U.S. business will become increasingly focused on enabling innovators such as software companies and app developers to enter foreign markets in a way that complies with data privacy requirements. At the same time, legitimis’ U.S. consultants will accompany U.S. companies through the jungle of EU legislation, in areas such as works council integration and rolling out international software projects. Speeding up business by (a) an integration from scratch and (b) a one stop solution with a global supplier will be legitimis’ approach to safeguarding companies working locally and acting globaly.
Looking back, David and Sebastian are more than happy. They were particularly encouraged by a meeting with a local company that has a similar set of values and approaches to data privacy.
One official aim for 2017 is to hold a data privacy conference in Kansas City and establish an office there.
